Brian Doherty serves as president and CEO of the Massachusetts Assisted Living Association (Mass-ALA), a role he has held since 2018. As assisted living is a relatively new and fast-growing industry, and an innovative model of a social wellness environment, Doherty focuses on educating policy makers and the public on its beneficial role in healthy aging. This includes legislative and regulatory advocacy, and production and promotion of consumer resources including the Assisted Living Resource Guide, which is published annually and provided free to members of the public. Doherty led the association in crafting a new strategic plan in 2018 that engaged members in its top strategic goal of enhancing the quality and scope of Mass-ALA’s educational curriculum for assisted living staff. As the industry evolves, Mass-ALA is focused on providing the education and training that the residence and management company workforce can utilize to improve the lives of assisted living residents.
Doherty has a proven track record in association management, having come to Mass-ALA from the Massachusetts Psychological Association, where he served as executive director from 2015 to 2018. Previously, Doherty served as CEO of the Northeast Association of Realtors, and from 2006 to 2013, Doherty held various roles within the Massachusetts Association of Realtors.
